In a relaxed atmosphere, Wednesday evening, June 4, the open training of the Suriname national team took place at the Dr. Ir. Franklin Essed Stadium. Fans got a chance to see their pride, Natio, up close ahead of the decisive World Cup qualifier against Puerto Rico on June 6. It became not just a sports session, but a powerful moment of national bonding and hope.
Fans massively behind their team
The SVB had called via social media for attendance at the training, and this was heeded en masse. Dozens of children, families and fans flocked to the training. Children carried flags, sang songs, and afterwards many were even allowed onto the field for photos and the team. For a moment, generations of Surinamese stood together on the grass, united by one goal: Kraka Natio baka.
Why this contest is SO important
De wedstrijd op 6 Juni tegen Puerto Rico is niet zomaar een duel; het is een sleutelwedstrijd in de tweede ronde van de CONCACAF-kwalificatie voor het WK 2026. Suriname en Puerto Rico bevinden zich in Groep F, samen met El Salvador, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines en Anguilla.
