In a joint move toward modernizing the procurement process, Suriname and Guyana have reached a digital milestone. Technology company Synergy 360 this week launched its E-Procurement Portal, an advanced digital platform designed to streamline and professionalize government and private procurement. The official launch took place at Buiten-Sociëteit Het Park in Paramaribo
Trust and honesty central
Shannon Wip, Managing Director of Synergy 360, outlined a broader vision during the launch:
"This is not just about putting tenders online, but also about building a shared economic marketplace in both countries - where trust, fairness and opportunity are central."
According to Wip, the platform is designed to encourage cross-border cooperation, especially in sectors such as energy, infrastructure and logistics, where both countries expect billions in investment in the coming years.
Practical reform in times of growth
The timing of the launch is crucial, according to experts.
Orlando Olmberg, president of the Suriname Energy Chamber, underscored the strategic importance:
"It comes just at the right time as Suriname prepares for a new phase of national development."
Economist and VES President Steven Debipersad also responded positively:
Every year we lose value through inefficiency and poor oversight. This is practical reform that makes a real difference."
Regional integration in practice
The E-Procurement Portal is intended for use by ministries, state-owned enterprises, private companies and international suppliers. In doing so, the platform aims not only for national transparency, but also for regional integration.
From Guyana, Keon Howard spoke on behalf of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI): "Interest within the Guyanese private sector is strong. Local businesses see this as a step toward fair access to opportunities in both markets."
Synergy 360 is local content certified in Guyana and an active member of the GCCI, which facilitates acceptance on that side of the border.
Expertise on board
The project is under the operational direction of Maureen Baynath, former consultant at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Her experience with multilateral institutions and governance structures is seen as adding value to successful implementation.
Outlook
In the coming weeks, Synergy 360 will begin the phased onboarding of government agencies, companies and suppliers. At the same time, international players operating or considering operating in the region will also be approached.
The initiative is widely seen as a concrete example of how technology can be used for institutional strengthening, better use of public resources and sustainable economic development.
