President Jennifer Simons received Chinese Ambassador Lin Ji Tuesday at the Presidential Palace for an official courtesy call. The focus of the meeting was the long-standing and strategic cooperation between Suriname and China.
Simons emphasized the solid foundations of the bilateral relationship, which she said rests on mutual trust and common interests. "China remains a crucial partner in our development process," the president said. She referred to the diverse projects in which the two countries already cooperate intensively, ranging from infrastructure and health care to education and agriculture.
The conversation also looked ahead to new cooperation initiatives. Renewable energy, digital innovation and climate adaptation were discussed, as well as technical assistance and targeted investments in both infrastructure and the manufacturing sector. President Simons emphasized that this agenda reflects the shared ambition to promote Suriname's sustainable development while ensuring mutual benefit.
The meeting marked a further deepening of diplomatic relations and confirmed the willingness of both governments to expand their partnership. Looking to future projects, Simons and Lin Ji agreed to continue the dialogue and work out concrete actions that will stimulate economic growth and social progress in Suriname.
