Why Surinamese can do more together than alone
Suriname is a country with potential. The 17th richest country in the world, some say.
But what stops us from actually radiating that wealth and success? We are creative and everyone has an idea on how to do better. And yet most ideas get stuck in talking points, discussions and Facebook posts.
Why?
Because without organization, an idea is worth nothing.
Change requires more than opinions or motivation.
It requires structure. Discipline. Collaboration.
And that starts with ourselves.
You don't need millions. You need people and structure. The biggest movements and companies did not start with money or power, but with a small group of people who got it right.
From a small cooperative to a multinational corporation
In the poor Basque country, north of Spain, five workers founded a workshop in 1956. They shared profits, chose their own leaders and worked as equals.
Today they have grown into Mondragon, the largest cooperative in the world. More than 80,000 employees, 100 cooperatives, €12 billion in sales. They started small.
But have organized themselves well.
Surinamese entrepreneurs in the Netherlands
The Kwaku Festival began as a simple day of soccer in Amsterdam-Zuidoost.
Today it is one of the largest multicultural festivals in the Netherlands,
with more than 300,000 visitors a year. Behind that success is organization.
From the booths to the programming, everything revolves around structure, cooperation and shared commitment. Kwaku shows: those who start small and organize well can end up big.
Without organization, struggle remains lost
Surinamese are warriors. All over the world, we stand out. We are present.
But too often we lose ground because we don't operate as a team. We think we can do it alone, but no one gets big on their own. Jack Ma (Alibaba), Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos - they all started with an idea. But their success came from building organizations: with clear responsibilities, procedures, evaluation, adjustment - and people who kept appointments. Surinamese are creative, but without structure, even the best idea is lost.
A vision without a plan is just a dream.
Whether you are starting an online business in Paramaribo,
establish a foundation in Rotterdam, or lead a neighborhood initiative in Miami -
the principles are the same: Work with a core team; Make clear agreements - and keep them; Provide a simple structure (cooperative, foundation, company, association); Build continuity through a strong internal organization.
Suriname's future lies in organized hands
If we want to build something - as individuals, communities or countries -
then we must learn to cooperate with structure. This requires leadership as well as docility.
Discipline and patience, reason over emotion and agreements over opinions. Be willing to follow through when necessary. Be a good leader when it is your time.
And above all: keep appointments, remain professional, and work together. We are not powerless. We are disorganized.
And that is solvable.
You don't build the future alone.
The future you build together - step by step, with structure.
