Ilonka of the Ilonka Elmont Foundation once again managed to inspire children. Despite the rain in recent days, students from the SO Grietjebieschool, SO Jankilaan and SO Bloementuin came full of enthusiasm to the George Streepy Stadium, where the foundation organized its second field day for children with disabilities. The children visibly enjoyed the challenging games.
Project manager Tirzah Robles de Medina and Ilonka Elmont looked back with satisfaction. "It was short but powerful. Finally everything went exactly as planned," Robles de Medina said. The field day came about in cooperation with the Child & Disability Fund and the Office of Special Education.
Ilonka emphasized the deeper value of the day: "A field day like this is not just about exercise, but about having fun working together, solving difficult tasks together AND developing motor skills."
She explained that each game has a learning objective: "We deliberately keep it dynamic. Laughter and movement are important, but we also want them to grow." In this way, the foundation hopes to contribute to the children's development, including by encouraging cooperation and enabling new social contacts.
