The facility includes more than 850 meters of quay and ample underlying land specifically designed for ships from the growing oil and gas sector. International exploration and production companies can use it for integrated storage, transshipment and vessel maintenance. By developing this hub locally, they expect to significantly reduce supply lead times and reduce dependence on foreign ports.
Shariat Hasrat, general manager of Comport, emphasizes that the cooperation with Kersten provides the "optimal mix of local knowledge and international expertise." Vishal Jadnanansing, CEO of Kersten, sees in this participation a logical expansion of the 257-year-old company's business activity in Suriname: "With this, we strengthen our supply chain towards the energy sector and contribute to sustainable employment."
The transaction was overseen by Finabank and EY as corporate finance advisors, while Best/VANEPS acted as legal counsel. Almar Giesberts, CCO of Finabank, calls the partnership "a powerful alliance in which vision and market ambition come together" and anticipates that the new offshore hub will provide a substantial economic boost to Suriname's inland shipping and energy sectors.
