The growth of the Green Awareness Expo is impressive: where only fifteen exhibitors participated two years ago, this year there are over thirty. Not only did the number of companies increase, but also the visitor audience doubled; in addition to professionals in the field, hundreds of schoolchildren participated in tours and workshops.
In the spacious halls of the Torarica Group, a lively dialogue ensued on circular products, green technologies and sustainable service providers. This event constitutes more than a showcase: it is a springboard for local action that sets the course for tomorrow's Suriname.
"Sustainability is not a fad but a shared duty to our community, our guests and future generations," underscored the Head of Service Excellence at Torarica. She explained that awareness begins with personal responsibility, but only gains real strength when partners, employees and contractors ride along on that sustainable course.
Energy and Environment Minister Patrick Brunings emphasized that his ministry acts as a link between global transition principles and Surinamese practice. "We need to make decisions now about the Suriname of 2050," he said. According to him, the key to a circular economy rests in shared responsibility between government and business.
He complimented the entrepreneurs on their "prime examples" of green entrepreneurship, stating that together with the government, they are laying the foundations for a resilient and environmentally conscious national survival. "The first seeds have been planted," Brunings said, "now it comes down to building together."
Specifically, Torarica invests in internal training programs and encourages chain partners to design their processes to be greener. These ongoing training programs and sustainability guidelines not only help develop employees, but also expand the network of companies that actively contribute to a greener economy.
For Suriname, this expo represents a crucial momentum with growing public-private alliances and strong public support, the country is laying the foundations for a sustainable economic transition. By investing in innovation and collaboration, Suriname can use its natural resources responsibly and arm itself to meet tomorrow's global challenges.
