The Prosecutor's Office, supported by the National Army, disabled an illegal runway in the remote Goliath area on Tuesday, July 29. This operation, conducted under the direct order of the Attorney General, represents a targeted blow against cross-border and undermining crime.
The runway - with a length of about 950 meters and a width of about 30 meters - appeared to have been in use recently, according to the clear tire tracks and aircraft remnants in the sand. Despite intensive investigations, no persons or cargoes were found, and it is so far unclear which organized group is responsible for construction and operation of this clandestine infrastructure.
To prevent reuse, explosives were placed at strategic points, damaging the paved strip beyond repair and preventing it from serving as a landing pad. The destruction of this facility closes an important logistical link for criminals seeking to transport drugs, weapons or other illegal goods across the border.
According to the public prosecutor, this action is part of a broader, structural approach to detecting and eliminating illegal logistics networks. By eliminating such link points, authorities hope to greatly reduce opportunities for undermining organizations and thus strengthen international cooperation against them.
