Cease-fire holds after Israeli-American successes in Iran

Despite the storm of media reports predicting the beginning of a new war, a ceasefire between Israel and Iran has actually been in place since June 25, 2025. What began as a carefully planned Israeli prevention operation grew into a coordinated military campaign in which both Israel and the United States played to their technological and strategic superiority. Contrary to reports of chaos and "failed diplomacy," factually available information shows that the Iranian nuclear program has been severely set back and that diplomatic pressure has since proved effective.

The immediate cause of the conflict lay with Israel, which launched Operation "Rising Lion" on June 13. This was not a symbolic retaliatory action, but a militarily disciplined attack on Iranian air defenses, ballistic missile launchers and crucial components of its nuclear program. From different angles, particularly via F-35s and unmanned platforms, the airspace over Iran was temporarily dominated. According to several independent analysts and other sources, the Israeli Air Force managed to eliminate the operational capability of dozens of anti-aircraft systems in no time. Key communications infrastructure and leading nuclear scientists were disabled in targeted attacks.

As the world watched, the United States joined the operation a few days later with a series of heavy air strikes under the code name "Operation Midnight Hammer." B-2 stealth bombers and cruise missiles struck nuclear facilities in Isfahan, Fordow and Natanz, among others. According to satellite images and statements from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Isfahan facility was hit especially hard. This facility was critical for converting enriched uranium to uranium metal - a necessary step for building nuclear weapons. The IAEA described the damage as "very significant," with the entire conversion process shut down.

Fordow, located deep underground, was also affected. The ventilation shafts and above-ground energy infrastructure sustained damage, severely limiting enrichment capacity. Although uranium enrichment is still technically possible, the move to weaponization without Isfahan remains unfeasible. The Natanz plant was also badly affected, including the shutdown of power supplies and upper structures. Although some of the centrifuges survived, the attack disrupted the complex for a long time.

The diplomatic breakthrough came on June 24, when President Donald Trump announced a cease-fire. In this, mediation by Qatar and Oman played a supporting role, but it was mainly military realities that forced Iran to agree to the truce. When Israel still attacked an Iranian radar site a day later, it was Trump who expressed his displeasure via a fierce statement on Truth Social. "ISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW," he wrote. The message was unequivocal, and no new large-scale military actions have been reported since.

Yet the coverage in many international media lagged behind the facts. Several newspapers headlined a "failed truce" and accused Trump of a "meltdown." In reality, all available information shows that the cease-fire has been functioning ever since. IAEA inspections confirm that Iran's nuclear weapons route has been interrupted. Crucial infrastructure is down, conversion capabilities have been destroyed, and the enrichment process has slowed to say the least. The claim that Iran could build a nuclear weapon within months, as suggested by some media outlets, does not hold up. Even if Iran tried to rebuild its program, it would almost certainly be detected by intelligence agencies or satellites and most likely be disrupted again.

In addition to physical damage, Iran has also lost knowledge and expertise. The assassinations of nuclear scientists, including previously Mohsen Fakhrizadeh and in June some of his successors, have permanently damaged the weaponization program. Iran still has the technical expertise and uranium enriched to 60%, but the path to a functional nuclear weapon still requires multiple steps: metal fabrication, weapons design, miniaturization and ballistic integration. Without conversion lines and with increased international vigilance, that pathway is practically inaccessible.

Although geopolitical tensions remain and the risk of new conflicts has not disappeared, the facts at the moment prove that the cease-fire remains intact. The reality contradicts the image of chaos conjured up by parts of the international press. The military supremacy of Israel and the U.S., combined with sharp diplomacy, has pushed back the conflict for the time being and seriously curbed Iran's nuclear aspirations.
