In view of Suriname's progress, the Suriname Business Association (VSB) urges an accelerated and focused formation of the new government, with governance, accountability and strategic foresight at its core. The VSB insists that a solid policy framework focused on long-term sustainable growth and economic resilience is indispensable.
The organization commends the orderly and transparent conduct of the May 25, 2025 elections and congratulates all community stakeholders for exercising their right to vote responsibly.
To promote economic recovery and expansion, a competitive investment climate is crucial, the VSB argues. The World Bank's "B-Ready" metrics should serve as benchmarks to remove bottlenecks in administrative processes, infrastructure development and legal certainty. This requires not only an understanding of current bottlenecks, but also a supported action plan and proactive engagement of all stakeholders.
In addition, the VSB advocates structured and inclusive social consultation between government, trade unions and employers. Functional consultation mechanisms, such as the Social and Economic Council (SER) and tripartite consultation platform, are fundamental to a balanced decision-making process, according to the VSB.
In drafting the 2025-2030 coalition program, the VSB urges a holistic approach that integrates the full Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) roadmap. These international development standards provide a neutral and integral framework that contributes to both prosperity and social justice in Suriname.
The start of the new reign coincides with the completion of the global SDG timeline. The VSB sees in this a unique opportunity to firmly anchor sustainable transitions (in laws and regulations, social policies and economic strategies).
Finally, the VSB calls on the incoming government to invest in visionary leadership, political integrity and ethical stakeholder management. Only through cross-sector collaboration and joint efforts can the foundation be laid for a stable and inclusive future for all of Suriname.
