Chief polling stations in Brokopondo, Coronie, Commewijne and Saramacca are today officially releasing the final election results of the district council elections. The public sessions will not only determine the district council seat distribution by party, but also announce the exact vote totals at the DNA level for each party and candidate.
In Wanica, the validation phase is nearing completion. "We have made considerable progress and are aiming to finalize the last fifteen process statements today," Bholanath Narain, chairman of the Wanica chief polling station, explained to Starnieuws. If all goes according to schedule, the public hearing could take place there soon as well; it is expected to be held Saturday.
Sessions are scheduled for tomorrow in Nickerie, Marowijne, Para and Sipaliwini. Meanwhile, in Paramaribo, work continues unabated on the recount and verification of votes. Once the work is completed in all districts, the Central Electoral Bureau will formally establish the nationwide results on Monday, June 9. This puts the final score a week ahead of 2020, when the official announcement did not occur until June 16.
After the publication of the final results, it will be up to the Independent Electoral Bureau to decide whether the election can be declared binding. That step will clear the way for the composition of The National Assembly. The newly elected assembly will begin its work on June 29. The inaugural meeting at which the deputies will be installed and the president and vice president elected will be chaired by Rabin Parmessar of the NDP, who, as the oldest member, leads the plenary congress.
