After years of obstacles due to limited funding, renovation of the Lands Hospital has now begun, made possible by a joint investment of US$2.34 million from TotalEnergies and APA. About US$1.73 million of that will go toward a thorough refurbishment of the bed pavilion. This will include not only the complete repair and beautification of the wooden support structure and facade cladding, but also the replacement of internal stairs and the addition of a modern elevator system to greatly improve accessibility for patients and staff. At the same time, the finishing floors, wall coverings and washrooms in the nursing wards will receive a complete upgrade.
The remaining $0.61 million is earmarked for the transformation of the adjacent Mother and Child Center. This center, which provides both prenatal and postnatal care, will receive a thorough modernization of its outpatient treatment rooms. In the process, not only will new office and communications technology be installed, but waiting areas will also be redesigned with comfort and privacy in mind. Furthermore, the entire complex will be connected to an improved power supply and advanced security systems, ensuring optimal protection for both medical equipment and patients during emergencies.
Throughout the project, a multidisciplinary oversight team from the funders is closely monitoring that all work complies with applicable international construction and care standards. This will ensure that planning, execution and delivery go smoothly and that soon thousands of families receiving care at this hospital will benefit from a safer, more accessible and modern healthcare building.
