We have a new president, Her Excellency Ms. Jennifer Geerlings-Simons.
As the new President of the Republic of Suriname, an important chapter in the political history of our country has begun. On behalf of many citizens, civil society organizations and the business community, we sincerely wish Her Excellency Ms. Jennifer Geerlings-Simons every success in her term of office.
President Geerlings-Simons takes over at a time when Suriname faces challenges and crucial to the success of its policy will be that all efforts remain focused on increasing prosperity. A clear, consistent economic plan with a focus on sustainable growth and employment is essential in this regard.
In the areas of infrastructure and energy supply there are also important challenges. Investments in roads and renewable energy sources can not only improve the accessibility of regions, but also ease the burden on the community and strengthen our export position. At the same time, the education sector requires structural renewal so that all Surinamese benefit from better health care and future-oriented education.
Her Excellency Ms. Jennifer Geerlings-Simons faces the task of working with Vice President Gregory Russia and the newly appointed ministers to chart a course that is both transparent and accountable. Good dialogue with the National Assembly, civil society and private sector partners is essential in this regard. Only through cooperation and alignment can we build a resilient society in which every citizen has perspective.
