As of July 3, Surinamese can renew or apply for a duplicate driver's license through a new digital portal of the Suriname Police Department (KPS). This will make long queues at the Traffic Department a thing of the past.
With just a few clicks, Suriname driver's license holders log into the secure platform and enter their information. After paying the fees, the applicant receives the renewed driver's license by mail. According to KPS director Bernard Rambaran, this step is part of the government's broader digitization program to make government services faster and more accessible. KPS is committed to modernizing our processes and putting the citizen first. This portal will save time and provide 24/7 service; an accompanying video will be released soon showing users the new way of working step by step.
In the next phase, the system will expand to include modules for driver education and entrance tests. Aspiring drivers will then be able to schedule lessons and apply for their driving test through the same portal.
With this innovation, the Suriname Police reinforces its ambition to streamline administrative procedures and bring service delivery to international standards.
