The final tranche of the Netherlands-Suriname bilateral treaty funds program is approaching. Last Friday, the Dutch ambassador, Walter Oostelbos, and Minister Raghoebarsing of Finance & Planning concluded an addendum that brings about an additional contribution of €3 million to Suriname's healthcare institutions.
This allocation will be used to purchase critical medical equipment for hospitals and care posts in Paramaribo, Nickerie and various domestic locations. This capital injection is intended to more substantially streamline the chain of care and regional treatment capacity throughout the country.
With the signing, coverage from treaty funds, originally committed at the 1975 Independence Covenant, is nearly exhausted. The ceremony explicitly commemorated this milestone in the decades-long development partnership.
The Dutch diplomatic post underlined that this intervention fits seamlessly with the strategic framework for transforming the Surinamese health sector as well as improving access and quality guarantees for all sections of the population.
