The Ministry of Economic Affairs and the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) are joining forces to help local farmers and budding entrepreneurs get started. From July 3 to 5, 2025, an intensive three-day Basic Skills Entrepreneurship workshop is scheduled at the premises of Agricultural Cooperative Kwatta.
Under the title Sustainable Agriculture in the Caribbean, women and young people between the ages of 15 and 35 in particular are given concrete tools. Participants dive into cost price calculations, learn to visually sketch their business concept with the Business Model Canvas and get a grip on financial administration, so that they will soon be able to independently monitor their margins.
Karishma Mathoera, Director of Entrepreneurship at EZ, argues that a robust business model is indispensable to convince investors and enable sustainable growth of agricultural enterprises. She sees the collaboration with WUSC as a catalyst for new export opportunities and a more resilient countryside. Through this hands-on approach, farmers should not only strengthen themselves economically, but also be able to implement climate-resilient innovations and capture new markets.
