Finabank books record year 2024: profits grow, digital lead strengthened

Finabank closed 2024 with a net profit of SRD 249 million. This growth came from customer-focused financing solutions, a tight risk framework and solid governance. Total assets rose by 15 percent to SRD 21 billion, increasing its market share in Suriname to 28 percent. The solvency ratio remained comfortable at 20 percent, well above minimum local and international standards.

At the General Meeting of Shareholders, the board confirmed that the liquidity position remained within the desired ranges and that problem loans constituted only one percent of the portfolio, one-fifth of the limit applied by the Central Bank of Suriname. Despite targeted investments in automation and talent development, the cost-income ratio, at 53 percent, remained at a healthy level.

On the digital front, Finabank strengthened its leadership position by becoming the first bank in Suriname to achieve ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification for information security. The bank also successfully marketed a US$20 million bond issue; the subscription was two and a half times oversubscribed, underscoring investor confidence. Credit rating agency CariCRIS, meanwhile, maintained the ratings at srA for foreign currency and srA+ for local currency, both with a stable outlook.

In addition to commercial growth, Finabank strengthened its sustainability agenda by expanding green financing and supporting various educational and social initiatives. The bank also simplified access to financial services: a checking or savings account can now be opened with nothing more than a valid ID card.

Some changes took place at the top of the organization. Maricor Del Mundo was nominated as Chief Financial & Risk Officer, subject to Central Bank approval. Former Commissioner and Risk Committee Chairman Feroz Ishaak stepped down after years of dedication to governance and risk management. His spot on the Supervisory Board will be taken, also subject to supervisory approval, by Willem Elzo Groenevelt.

Finabank thus combines solid results, digital innovation and a clear sustainability compass, positioning itself as a stable player with room for further growth.
