Deutsche Bank, Flow Traders and Galaxy Digital, in partnership with AllUnity, launched a fully European MiCA-regulated euro-stablecoin in late July under the name EURAU. The coin, which is so far available exclusively on the Ethereum blockchain, is managed and supervised by German financial regulator BaFin and offers a stable, European alternative to the ubiquitous dollar-stablecoins USDT and USDC. EURAU is expected to be rolled out on other blockchains during 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Bullish Europe exchange in Frankfurt is the first trading venue where EURAU can be traded. Bullish also operates under BaFin supervision and now has four of the required licenses to operate fully within the MiCA framework. For Suriname, the launch of EURAU presents a number of interesting opportunities. Although the total size of euro stablecoins has grown by 60 percent (from $367 million to $587 million as of December 2024), their market share remains relatively small according to CoinGecko represent they are still only 0.2 percent of the global stablecoin market, where Tether is the clear leader with more than $163 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For European policymakers and financial institutions, EURAU is an important tool to address the dominance of the U.S. dollar in the crypto market. Both the European Central Bank and advisors like J\u00fcrgen Schaaf advocate a combination of public and private euro solutions in the digital world. In this regard, the introduction of EURAU is a crucial link in efforts to strengthen Europe's financial sovereignty and become less dependent on foreign currencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The emergence of EURAU together with the MiCA implementation in Europe may encourage the local regulator nl the Central Bank of Suriname to develop regulations around crypto-assets more quickly. This creates clarity for Surinamese parties on fiscal and legal frameworks and helps attract international investment in blockchain projects from Brussels and Frankfurt.
