What marks the next few years is no less than the threshold to a new era, around 2030 machines are expected to be able to think both cognitively and creatively at a level that surpasses us. We are not simply facing further automation of processes, but a fundamental shift in how societies function. Every major transition from the agrarian to the commercial society, from the trading republic to the industrial society featured a turbulent decade-long phase in which vested interests fought to maintain their position, while innovators drew the outlines of something completely different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now something similar is happening again, data and algorithms are displacing traditional industries, NGOs and digital networks are taking influence over policy arenas once unchallenged by national governments, and disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain and 3D manufacturing are rewriting the rules of our existence. Whereas in previous revolutions we received our freedom by abandoning feudal structures or embracing mass production, the coming revolution will primarily ask a deeper question, what makes us distinctive as humans when intelligence is no longer our exclusive domain?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The answer lies not in even faster calculations or more extensive data collection, but in the dimensions in which we do remain unique by ensuring empathy, creativity, moral awareness and the search for a higher purpose. It is precisely in these \"human frequencies\" that the next horizon unfolds en a society in which we do not fight over resources or dominance, but work together for a collective well-being. The challenge is to invest now in the skills both technical and spiritual that will enable us to embrace that common purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While the world grapples with algorithms, our beloved Suriname can instead excel by investing in developing inner dimensions, values and community spirit, and in acquiring the digital and analytical skills that the 21st century demands. By allowing spirituality and skill to go hand in hand, Suriname can not only stand firm in the shadow of AI, but also show leadership in shaping a future where technology serves us, rather than dominates us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
