Nvidia resumes H20 chip deliveries to China and unveils RTX Pro GPU for smart factories

Nvidia top executive Jensen Huang announced today at a summit event in Beijing that the U.S. chip giant will firmly re-establish supplies of its H20 artificial intelligence chips to China in the coming months. This will end the export freeze imposed in April due to concerns about U.S. national security. At the same time, Nvidia is working on a new, China-compliant model: the RTX Pro GPU, aimed specifically at robotics and smart factories.

Huang emphasized that the H20 chip, with its exceptional memory bandwidth, is ideally suited for large language models and other advanced AI applications. "H20 has now been released again and is still performing phenomenally," the CEO said. "We strive to bring to China the most advanced chips that we can deliver."

The decision follows intense negotiations between the United States and China over rare earths and export licenses. According to US trade chief Howard Lutnick, the reopening of H20 sales is part of these broader talks. Licenses for Chinese orders would henceforth be processed "super fast," Huang assured: "There are numerous orders already in place."

Nvidia sees an indispensable growth market in China. Without access to Chinese customers, Huang warned earlier, the company's global leadership position in AI would come under pressure. Competitors such as Huawei are trying to market their own AI chips, but Huang is confident that Nvidia's technology will continue to lead the way.

Along with the restart of H20 deliveries, Nvidia announced the development of the RTX Pro GPU, a chip designed specifically for the Chinese market for applications in industrial automation and robotics. "The size and diversity of China's supply chains and rapid growth in smart-factory initiatives make RTX Pro perfect here," Huang stated. With this dual offensive, Nvidia not only strengthens its position in the world's largest technology market, but also cleverly responds to the complex geopolitical relations between Washington and Beijing.
